In order to get together leading experts in the field of Defense and hold a debate on the main threats and opportunities in this area, the Army conducted the following institutional seminar: “Cyberspace: challenges with regard to Chile’s security and defense in the 21st century”.
It was held in the “Capitán Ignacio Carrera” auditorium of the “Ejército Bicentenario” Building and hosted by the Minister of National Defense, Alberto Espina O. and the Army Commander-in-Chief, General Ricardo Martínez M.
During this seminar, General Martínez referred to the importance of cyberspace – an environment for social interaction – whose potentialities have multiplied as a result of the rapid evolution of IT and the effects of a globalized world.
On the other hand, the US Air Force, General Robert H. Latiff, lectured on the implications of current technological trends for the future development of cybernetic dominance.
During this meeting, the Finnish academic, Pasi Eronen gave a talk on “The implications of current technological trends for the future development of cybernetic dominance”, the Spanish Air Force Officer, General Carlos Gómez López de Medina lectured on “Cyber-defense in Spain”, the British Brigadier, Mark C. Proctor discussed “The contribution of Cyber operations for defense in the United Kingdom”, whilst the University of Chile professor, Dr. Alejandro Hevia A., addressed the issue of “National Challenges with regard to Cyber Security”.
