Launch of the new I8 coupe, the new Formula E safety car

BMW introduced the renovated I8 coupe to the world at an event in Chile prior to the Santiago ePrix.

The characteristics of the new emergency vehicle from the BMW electric car series include a carbon fiber spoiler and  tailgate, a black roll bar, an LED bar on the roof of the vehicle, sports seats from the new BMW M4 GTS with four-point seatbelts, BMW M carbon ceramic brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, ATS Motorsports 20-inch rims, Michelin Pilot Super Sport mags, AdditionSystem additional engine cooling (2 fans) and a 33 amp hour battery.

“We are very proud to be the country to execute the global launch of the Safety Car for the fourth season of the competition. This is a mystery that finally unveiled to the eyes of the world. We saw it in action at the great sports celebration that premiered in the streets of our capital city”, stated BMW brand manager María José Saez.

BMW is the official supplier of electric assistance vehicles for the Formula E. This range also includes the BMW i3s Medical Car and the BMW X5 40e Rescue Car. Both are street models adapted to be automobile racing support vehicles.
