The “Establishing Mirror Committees at INN: Experience with international participation” convention was held at the Renaissance Hotel from May 15 to 17 2018.
A three-day internship was organized in order to provide tools and experiences required by regulators employed by National Standard Bodies (NSB) belonging to COPANT. The session focused on improving effective and efficient participation in international standardization processes and different standard bodies from Latin America and the Caribbean were in attendance: IRAM (Argentina), ICONTEC (Colombia), IBNORCA (Bolivia) and INTECO (Costa Rica), among others. This was the second version of the international internship program successfully hosted by COPANT and organized by the National Institute for Standardization (INN). The program was designed to meet the needs of standardization professionals employed by NSBs with experience in and knowledge of standardization processes in the national sector who are starting to participate at international levels.
The issues discussed included standardization considerations regarding technical barriers to trade, general information about the Spanish Translation Task Force (STTF) in ISO, the 2016 – 2020 ISO strategy and general considerations for establishing National Mirror Committees (NMC), among others. In addition, the session enabled the exchange of experiences and outlooks between national standard bodies and the proposal of future actions.
