The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited Chile on Monday, and will continue to Peru and Ecuador, in order to tighten relations with South America, especially economic relations.
For Erdogan, Chile is the gate to Latin America thanks to the Free-Trade Agreement (FTA) that both counties subscribed in 2011, AFP highlighted.
«Chile is a key country for our opening to Latin America and The Caribbean. During the last ten years, this opening strategy has had a very important momentum», affirmed the Turkish president through his official interpreter after meeting with Chile’s President, Michelle Bachelet, at La Moneda Palace in Santiago.
«Turkey starts its outreach to Latin America in Chile», affirmed President Bachelet.
During the last decade, Turkey has increased its presence in Latin America with the opening of new diplomatic missions, as shown by trade exchange, which increased nine times, reaching 10 billion dollars in 2014.
MundoChile was honored to be the official provider of simultaneous interpretation services for meetings between President Erdogan and President Bachelet, as well as of essential support to business rounds and trade exchange between Turkish and Chilean business persons.
