Canada’s Governor General Official Visit to Chile

Canada's Governor General, David Johnston, started his state visit to Chile on Sunday, November 30th, with a tour of the Human Rights Memorial Museum in Santiago. Johnston, whose official title is Governor General of Canada, being the Head of Government in representation of Queen Elizabeth II of England, was received by President Michelle Bachelet. Among the activities was a joint declaration and the signing of a memorandum for open scientific, technological, and innovational exchanges between both nations, at Patio de Las Camelias in La Moneda Palace. “I would like to express my satisfaction with Governor Johnston's visit”, stated the Chilean President in her speech, highlighting that “he is highly regarded by the citizens in his country, is a great personality and has renown expertise on education, science, technology, and innovational matters, which guide his actions as a public figure”. President Bachelet also stressed Chile and Canada's vast bilateral agenda, and announced: “We shall continue working together. We want to learn from the Canadian experience, a country characterized by its extensive and inclusive growth”. Meanwhile, Governor Johnston stressed the common criteria that bring Canada and Chile together on matters such as the defense of human rights, democracy, and the efforts for social equality.
