With a record attendance of almost 400 business men and women from the hotel industry and the world of investment from diverse countries, the South American Hotel and Tourism Investment Summit, considered the largest in Latin America, was initiated in Chile. The opening was attended by Jacqueline Plass, subsecretary of Tourism; Álvaro Castilla, National director of Sernatur; Arturo García Rosas, president of SAHIC and HVS Sudamérica Chairman and Steve Rushmore, president and Founder of HVS Global Hospitality Services, according to that published in the website terra.com.ar. During the conference, presentations were made on the ‘Hotel Business World Panorama’ and in this context, the situation that this industry faces on a South American Level. According to the early figures from the WTO – World Tourism Organization – at this point in 2011, South America is the fastest growing region in the world in terms of international arrivals, tripling the world’s growth of 4.5% to reach 15%, and developing at a rate of 50% with respect to 2010. This positive scenario shows the establishment of South America as the new leader in the growth of international tourism.
